Elder Abuse on the Rise

Written by Vincent J. Russo
The statistics are unnerving.  In 2004, Adult Protective Services received a total of 565,747 reports of elder abuse in this country and over 40% were substantiated as elder abuse cases.  At the same time, we have a growing number of seniors. There are presently over 40 million people over the age of 65 in our country.

Abuse can come in many different types: physical, sexual, emotional or psychological, neglect, abandonment, and financial exploitation.

Special Needs Group Has First Meeting

Written by Vincent J. Russo
Exciting News from the Special Needs Group in formation of Gotham City Networking  www.gothamnetworking.com
Houston - we have lift off -

Ten Gothamites and "soon to be" Gothamites met this morning at my law firm office in Westbury to discuss the mission of the Special Needs Group -
... networking, resources, education and advocacy.
It is my privilege to chair the start up of this group. The meeting was attended by attorneys, financial advisors, insurance specialists to discuss how professionals can work together to ensure the highest quality of services for people with disabilities.
Gotham City Networking brings together service-oriented professionals in complementary fields to share not only contacts, but also ideas and resources

The group agreed to meet again in about six weeks to formulate its mission statement. Update to follow.

If anyone is interested in joining the group or would like to know more about the services that are available through Gotham - please let me know.

This is the beginning of a wonderful opportunity to help people with special needs.
Thanks and Have a Great Day!

New Article on Guardianships

Written by Vincent J. Russo

I've added a new article on Guardianships to the Articles section of our website.

We also have a very helpful guardianship brochure on the benefits of commencing a guardianship proceeding and how it works.

I hope you find it helpful.

Have a great day.

We can all agree that our veterans should be treated with dignity and respect.

There is a hidden benefit available to our veterans called Aid and Attendance

If you are a veteran or a spouse of a veteran and need care at home or in an assisted living facility, you may be eligible for Aid and Attendance, which can help pay your bills.

But you must apply for these benefits.

My Planning Tip of the Day is:

Veterans, you deserve the benefits that are available to you.

Download our Veterans Benefits brochure.

How can I leave assets to my loved ones in the most protective way?

Are you concerned about your child's marriage?

Does your child have creditor problems?

The SAFE TRUST can be the solution to these concerns.

The Safe Trust allows you to pass assets on to your familyin the safest way possible.

Outright distributions to family leave those assets vulnerable.

Planning Tip of the Day: Use Technology

Written by Vincent J. Russo

My father turned 83 this past year, and it was quite a year for him.

First, the laser surgery, and now - he no longer wears glasses. Pretty good.

Then, the hearing aid – my father has been deaf in one ear since he was a little boy and then gradually he lost his hearing in his good ear.

Now he is so excited. He can hear the rustling of the newspaper when he turns the pages. And he never knew that the turn signal makes a blinking noise. He tells my mother that she needs to lower her voice when speaking to him.

What’s next for Dad - I can only ponder.

My Planning Tip of the Day is:
Take advantage of the Latest Technology – and enjoy life.

I look from the wings at the play you are staging.
While my guitar gently weeps.

As I'm sitting here doing nothing but aging.
Still my guitar gently weeps.

We find that lost verse on the Beatles - Anthology 3.

What a classic from George Harrison.

Aging is not so bad when you think about the alternative. So we are all living longer.

We need to take care of ourselves. Physically and Mentally. Staying active can be the key.

My Planning Tip of the Day:
Make the Most of Every Day
